Category: Atkins information

I know it has been a long time. I have been though a lot in the last few years as we all have. My health has been a roller coaster going through vertigo and heart issues along with being 55 now and fighting hormones for every pound.

Earlier in the summer I knew I was ready again. It has been painfully slow 7.5 pounds in 6 weeks and then another 2 pounds this week finally.

I wonder how long it will take to find out all the pandemic took from us. I know it took who I was away. Constantly locked up and not able to just get out and explore.

I had starting gaining weight with menopause on 2012. No matter what I did I gained. For 4 years before that I ate as a routine. I worked at understanding my ccl and knew where I had to be to maintain 98 pounds lost. But all of a sudden no matter what I started gaining. I grew frustrated, got lazy and slacked off. I would say I gained 50 lbs back of what I lost. It hurt. It made me angry. It made me feel less than and unworthy. My drs told me to try other methods and I did but they don’t work for me.

I Am A Carb Addict.

It is that simple. If a diet tells me I can eat them and lose I will and I wont lose even though that is the way the plan works.

in the beginning of the summer I started thinking about what I loved about Atkins. The weight loss, for sure but more than that I felt good. I lost the brain fog, the bloat, I lost in all the right places. I felt good.

So that is my focus this time around. I had my cholesterol done recently and will have them done again in 6 months to a year. 9.5 pounds isn’t much but I have to say everyday I feel a bit more like myself. I know this will be a long journey. I lost 79 pounds in the first year last time and then 20 the next. I am pretty sure I am going to be lucky too lose 20 by next year but somehow I have to be okay with that. I am not spring chicken. My Children are almost grown. I don’t want to spend the time my husband and I have ahead not feeling good.

So here I am. Ready to whip out recipes, tracking, and trying to accept this new chapter with grace and patience.

Baylor

What are you eating today??

This morning I am starting with left over chicken and green beans in a skillet all fried up with butter. If you don’t know this about me.. I am not an EGG girl.. I don’t like them. I try over the years to eat them and it does not go well. 😉

So for me breakfast is a big meal of veggies and some kind of protein. Yesterday it was a pork chop with green beans.

Think outside of the box. Give your self a great start! Eat and eat well my friends!

In the end that is what will drive you crazy.

If  you are just starting, take it easy. Learn the plan and while you are drop all the flour and sugar and fries.. Read up, Learn about the plan. Stock up with good food.  NEW ATKINS FOR  A NEW YOU, the newest Atkins book makes it so easy for you to learn the plan. To make it something you can live on each day. The options are limitless within the rules of the plan.

I love the forum. But there you are getting information that is skewed by someone else’s experience even mine. I love the Atkins books. I really feel that if you want true success in something you need to be educated in it as much as possible. Learning only about
Induction is only going to make you an induction expert.. 😉

LEARN THE WHOLE PLAN!!! Learn how it works. Read more than one book. Then start the plan by stocking up and getting rid of trigger foods eat well and learn to enjoy eating. Don’t diet on Atkins eat!!!!!!

Good meat, Good fats, good veggies..

Butter, oil, bacon, all things you can add to make things flavorful and make your food taste good!!

I don’t love exercise.. Never did. Once is a while I have a great walk or feel the urge to do something sports related.. But as a rule.. NAHHHHH.

One of the things I love about Atkins is that you don’t have to work out you lose. You don’t have to earn the right to eat… You can eat well and lose weight and then find some activity you like later.. If you ever do. I know, I know, exercise is good for you .. so they say.. But I am still glad that I don’t have to work off my meatballs and gravy.. My mashed cauliflower with butter, my cheesecake!!

Learn the plan. Live the plan, Then focus on exercise if you want.  Be kind to yourself. Find the grace that you have for others and then pour it over yourself.

We have all be so hard on ourselves over the years. Eating nothing only to lose an ounce and feel defeated..

Don’t do that anymore. Focus on eating right. ENJOY that eating. Don’t diet on Atkins. Eat well and lose well. Then see where you are.

I know you can do this. I know it!!

I just used the title of this post on an Atkins post because it is really speaking to me tonight.  I have had a hard couple of years. The biggest blow to me is the changes that come as you age..  hormones.. Little torture gremlins.. 😉

No one tells you how brutal it can be.

I have 30lbs I need to lose. I lost 8 the first 2 weeks and it made me realize this time is going to be different. I am older again, Now I am being attacked by hormones or the lack of them.. 🙂 But that is okay.

Amazingly enough, tonight I feel much stronger. I feel like there is a light again at the end of the tunnel.

Today as I ate my lunch of mashed cauliflower and fried pork chops, It felt good and easy. I am in the groove again. 🙂

That is my high today.. 🙂

Today I am out with a bunch of amazing people at my church for a conference. There is a lot of walking. Uphill. Downhill. Stairs.
As I was walking quickly through the hall of the arena, I realized I was not hugging and puffing. I was not struggling it feeling small. I found my stride. 🙂

I felt taller. It felt like a strut. It felt good.

I bought a packit lunch tote and have it filled with my food. One of the best things was an ice cold sliced plum tomato. This thing works!!

But today is the day, I found my stride. 🙂

With shows like the biggest loser all over the place, Showing people losing 5 ,10 even 20 pounds in a week.. What does that mean for the normal folk? Those of us just plugging away each day on our own with 1-2pounds each week gone.. Maybe none.

The way they react when they lose 1 lb or even 3, with such a sense of shame and failure is amazing. They are now conditioned and conditioning us that the normal and good guideline of 1-2 pounds a week is a bad thing. We must be doing something wrong.

DON’T BUY IT.

First they are beaten each day in the gym, working out 5 hours a day, Eating low calorie and it is something that I would say 80% of them don’t maintain. How could they? They have to get to real life right? Pay their bills, raise a family?

What if you don’t lose anything one week but did it all right.. Are you a failure?

Nope. What you did was spend a week maintaining and living in your loss!! That is a good thing!!

Does one week not losing mean you are at your carb limit! NO. Not even close. it takes 4 weeks at the same weight for it to be a “stall”. At that point we look at what is being eating, Search for carb creep or not enough calories, maybe a little more exercise.. and see if it will move. IF not then we start to back down a little and see it the scale moves again..
BUT that week not losing.. Is not failure. It is learning experience.

It is expected! It is normal! IT IS REAL LIFE.

I just h*a*te that people get frustrated after 2 days of not losing or even a week and assume they are doing it wrong, It won’t work for them.

Atkins is always working. IT is healing you. IT is lowering blood sugar and cholesterol. It is lowering that BP. Making it so you can get off meds.

That in itself is a prize worth its weight in gold.

I KNOW you want to lose the weight. It will happen. As long as you do the plan the right way get off induction and work through it you will not only get the loss but the maintenance that will keep you satisfied and never surprised. You will be in complete control of your weight.

Please, Don’t let shows like this choose your goals or decide your success. Each time you make a right choice, YOU ARE THE WINNER! You are succeeding. Time is the only thing that will show the results.

Think of where you can be in one year. Ready for spring and summer at your best you.

Please take these shows for what they are. A gimmick to make money on TV.

I know most people make resolutions each year.. usually it is the same one every year.. To lose weight.

One of the best things about Atkins is that that is not my resolution anymore.

Atkins is not a diet, It is a lifestyle.

It is something that grows and stretches with you.

It does not take a lot of money to do Atkins. The site, The book ( NEW ATKINS FOR A NEW YOU) and food.

Atkins makes this so easy for you. All you have to do is take that step. Trust the process and have a little faith in you. You will not believe how you will gain control over something in your life that has been something you could never control before.

Just do it, It may be the last time you ever have weight loss on your list of Resolutions.

YOU ARE WORTH IT!

My son is sick today. So I took him to the doctor and while we were there started flipping through the latest Rachael Ray Magazine. He saw Artichokes and wanted to try them.

Her recipe calls for stuffing but I don’t think they need it. So I am making them easy.. boiling them in lemon salt water and then making hollandaise for them. While I was at the grocery store, They had crab legs on sale and he wanted them too. So that is what he is eating for dinner.

There was a recipe for stuffed mushrooms that I am trying too. I will let you know what I think. But I love mushrooms in anything and prepared most every way so expect a thumbs up!

I love that my kids love trying new foods and eating well. I think Atkins rubs off on people around us!
